Manufacturer Make Model

The Manufacturer/Make/Model frame is used to create and maintain a list of valid manufacturers, makes, and models to identify units within the M5 system. The Manufacturer/Make/Model combination is the basis for defining technical specification for a unit.

The Manufacturer Make Model is entered on Tech Spec Main to define the tech spec code. The Tech Spec code is one of the primary identifying unit codes in M5. This table is a hierarchy with one model belonging to only one make and make belonging to only one manufacturer.

Create

This frame has a similar functional dynamic to the Menu Maintenance frame. The folder system houses all Manufacturers, Makes, and Models. The ‘Action’ links are located to the right of the folder system.

Manufacturer:

To create a new manufacturer, click on the top level folder to make it active. To the right, the only Action link available should be the ‘New Manufacturer’ link. Click that link.

You will receive a popup box prompting you to type in the new Manufacturer name. Type in the new manufacturer name. This field has a limit of 20 characters.

For example: TOYOTA

Click OK, and the new manufacturer will appear in the file system with a folder icon to the left of the name.

Make:

To create a new make associated with your new manufacturer, click on the manufacturer folder to make it active. Click on the ‘New Make’ Action link to the right.

You will receive a popup box to enter the new make. Type in the name of the new make. This field has a limit of ten.

For example: CAMRY

Click OK, and the new make will appear in the file system beneath the manufacturer’s file.

Model:

To create a new model associated with the new manufacturer and make, click on the make folder to make it active. Click on the ‘New Model’ Action link to the right.

You will receive a popup box to enter the new model name. This field has a limit of 12 characters.

For example: CAMRY LE

Click OK, and the new model will be added to the file system as a sub folder of the make.

So in this example, the Manufacturer/Make/Model would be TOYOTA/CAMRY/CAMRY LE. Once created this combination can then be assigned to Tech Spec codes on Tech Spec Main.

Modify

You can create additional new makes associated with manufacturers and new models associated with those makes in the same manner outlined above.

Delete

You can delete a Manufacturer/Make/Model at any level of the file system provided that the part of the combination you want to delete is not in use by any other tables in the system. If the manufacturer, make, or model you are trying to delete is in use you will receive an error message.

To delete a Manufacturer/Make/Model, click on the folder of the piece you want to delete. Click the ‘Delete’ Action link to the right.

You will receive a prompt asking you to confirm the action. Click Delete to confirm the action. The record will be removed from the file system and will no longer be available for use.
